What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1811 $5 Gold Capped Bust Half Eagle. The varieties deal with the sizing and format of the number "5" at the bottom of the reverse of the coin where the 5 dollar denomination is depicted. One variety has a small "5" while the other has a tall "5". The difference between the Small 5 vs Tall 5 varieties is depicted above in the example comparison image. Note out the Tall 5 is taller and the bottom of the number nearly touches the rim of the coin. Also the spacing between the "5" and "D." is wider with the tall 5 variety.
