What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were a few major varieties of the 1818 $5 Gold Capped Bust Half Eagle. This major variety is known as the "STATESOF" variety where there is very little spacing between the words "STATES" and "OF" which makes it appear as a single word. Depicted below is an example comparison image of the Normal reverse vs the STATESOF reverse. Note the spacing between the two words and also the spacing between the letters in the word "STATES" is much wider:
