1856 S/S Seated Liberty Quarter - S Over S RPM Error
One major variety is the 1856 S/S Seated Liberty Quarter. This error is a repunched mint mark where a large San Francisco "S" mintmark was struck over a smaller "S" mint mark. This can be identified by noticing parts of the underlying small "S" being seen to the right or lower-right portion of the overlying large "S". This is depicted above in the example image of this coin. Source of example image is courtesy of Heritage Auction Galleries.
