What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): One major error of the 1846 Seated Liberty Half Dollar features a "Horizontal 6" Repunched Date (RPD). This variety is very noticeable and easy to identify. This error was caused when the engraver punched the standard "184" into the die and mistakenly had the number "6" punch positioned 90 degrees off - which resulted in a horizontal "6". After noticing the error and mistake - the die was then positioned correctly and stamped over much of the underlying "6". Although parts of the underlying "6" is still very noticeable towards the left and bottom portions of the "6" as depicted by the arrows in the example image of the coin above.
