What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.):
1873 S Seated Liberty Half Dollar - No Arrows
There were only 5000 of the 1873-S Seated Liberty Half Dollar of the "No Arrows" type ever produced. However none known to exist in any collection. The reason for this has to do with the Coinage Act of 1873 in which the legal standard weight of silver changed for US coinage. So all of the lighter weight 1873-S "No Arrows" Seated Liberty Half dollars were supposedly melted down as were many of the coins from other mints as well (which is why they are so rare and valuable). It's possible that some of these San Francisco minted coins survived and never got melted and a coin like this would be extremely valuable - likely with a value over $1 million.
