What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1806 Turban Head Gold Quarter Eagle. One variety features an 1806/4 Overdate with an 1806 struck over an 1804 date where parts of the underlying "4" can easily be seen within the "6". The other variety is an 1806/5 overdate. The difference between the 1806/5 vs 1806/4 overdates is depicted below in the example comparison image:
Both varieties also have other differences on the obverse of the coin. All 1806/4 coins feature 8x5 stars (8 stars on the left side and 5 stars on the right side). The 1806/5 variety has 7x6 stars.
