One major variety of the 1843 D Liberty Head $2.50 Gold Quarter Eagle features a small "D" mint mark on the reverse of the coin. This is the most common of the two mintmark varieties and features a much smaller mint mark. All varieties of the 1843 Dahlonega-minted quarter eagles feature the small date with crosslet 4 on the obverse of the coin.
