What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1804 $5 Gold Turban Head Half Eagle. This variety features a Small "8" stuck over a Large "8" in the 1804 date. The other variety is known as the "Small 8" (normal strike with no overdate). It is extremely easy to distinguish the two varieties. The difference between the "Small 8" vs "Small 8 Over Large 8" is depicted below in the example comparison image.
