What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): This variety of the 1823 Capped Bust Half Dollar features the "Tampered 3" in the date. This variety looks sort of like a patched 3 because there is bump within the gap on the outside (right side) of the 3. This actually happened due to a die chip. Although the inner piece in the middle of the 3 is not broken - so this distinguishes the variety from the patched 3 variety.
