What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): The 1795 $10 Turban Head Gold Eagle is the very first US gold coin produced and also the first of the $10 Eagle denomination. The "Eagle" is the original standard unit that all other US gold coins are based on (examples: Quarter Eagle - Half Eagle - Eagle - Double Eagle).
There were two major varieties of the 1795 $10 Eagle - One variety features 13 leaves on a branch that the eagle has in it's claw - while the other rarer variety features 9 leaves (depicted above). The difference between the 13 Leaves vs 9 Leaves is depicted below in the example comparison image:
