What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1797 Turban Head $10 Gold Eagle. The newer and more common variety features the Heraldic Large Eagle on the reverse of the coin (as depicted above). The earlier and rarer variety features the original small eagle on the reverse of the coin. The new Heraldic Large Eagle design on the reverse of the coin would be used up until 1804 when $10 gold eagle coin production would stop for 34 years.
