What This Coin Looks Like (Obverse, Reverse, Mint Mark Location, Special Features, etc.): There were two major varieties of the 1797 Turban Head $10 Gold Eagle. The earlier and rarer variety features the original small eagle on the reverse of the coin as depicted above. Later on in 1797 - a new Heraldic Large Eagle was featured on the reverse and would be used up until 1804 when $10 gold eagle coin production would stop for 34 years.
